Spiral Space

A generative art piece projection begins with a dot's spiral journey and it races through the whole space. It never stops and continues to play out to form its world with other surrounded planets.

Spiral Space

In a diverse world, saturated with increasing amounts of elements to think near us, dot’s spiral journey opens our mind to draw joyful relation with our dream through spaces. It transforms spiral motion to represent surreal imagery and the experience of “Let’s keep going on”. Dot and planets’ race engages our spirit to create positive movement over our own space. Its journey goes beyond the infinity without any hesitation anymore and never stops.

Through dot’s circular journey, it plays out the perforated circles through the darkened space. It represents a unique reflection of circulating emotion, a space for possible dreams toward hopeful voyages. Its main purpose was to transform dot’s motion data into generative graphics and also audio experience. Its engaging movements explore to create a new world by combining color, motion and visuals. Viewers can see the projected dot’s movement expanding into diverse spaces with other planets with green lights. The entire space appears to move and circulate.

This generative art pieces are composed of three components: dot, journey, and space. A dot emerges from its original space and begins it’s continuous spiral journey.

Dot: A dot begins it’s random movement from somewhere.

Journey : Dots forms it’s spiral ‘journey’ near moments across the perforated road.

Space: Dots are reflected as electrons and our spirits racing through space. It never stops its journey, which moves with our joyful thoughts bridging into a dream.

Creating Process

I began to create art pieces from idea > concept > research and then generated it with 3D shapes to map into real perforated wall. As the projection shape 'perforated wall' has circle shapes within whole walls, it was great to match spiral journey of dot's movement. I especially liked when each circular pieces could have different sync to show diverse motions with different speed and angle.

Self Evaluation

I am very satisfied with my progress on the projection mapping project. Beginning from the concept of circular movements of dots and developing into a more speedy and generative path was not only challengeable but also creative process.

Improvements

The more exploration of the art piece’s natural movement and speed adjustments such as acceleration and decelerations was needed. From this lesson, studying and application on spatial transformation would begin with more dynamic rhythm and energy. Furtherly, I would go for trials on diverse forms of coloured dots, echoing art - shapes, as well as dynamic aesthetics.

  • Make more speedy movement of dots and arc with it’s a spiral journey. Explore on phase time element such as acceleration and deceleration of its movement.
  • Generate rotation motion. Think on ‘how to make it transform natural from, dot to arc and arc to space. Spatial transformation.’
  • Expand the individual role of perception, responding to the technologically driven optimism of the space age.
  • Create an ambiguous sense of spatial depth. Such interaction of rhythm colour and composition.
  • Invoke rhythm and energy in art akin to form colour, shapes and systems, as well as our relationship and responses to them. Seemingly arrangement of coloured dots, echoing art aesthetics.
